APCA satisfied with water management report - French MP Philippe Martin’s report into quantitative water management in agriculture was submitted to the prime minister on Wednesday 5 June. The report contains a proposed “new vision for quantitative water management in agriculture”. In a statement released on 11 June, APCA (the French permanent assembly of chambers of agriculture) said that “some of the proposals match the demands of the agricultural sector”; namely, the development of irrigation and the best possible access to Community funding. The Chambers think that “the proposals in the Martin report are heading in the right direction.”

However, more simplified administrative procedures are “essential”, particularly with regard to requests for single authorisations for water abstraction. “We are calling for the implementation of an incidents document, rather than an impact assessment, as well as a maximum authorisation period to provide farmers with improved visibility”, say the Chambers of Agriculture.
